ImageMinister Lawrence Cannon met his Peruvian counterpart, Jose Antonio García Belaúnde at Torre Tagle, Lima, Peru. The Ministers discussed the excellent state of bilateral relations between Canada and Peru including the recently concluded Free Trade Agreement.
The Ministers noted that the agreement provides an important and timely stimulus to support continued growth in investment and trade between Canada and Peru. They discussed future avenues for further collaboration including in the areas of technology and innovation, energy and mining, and education and academic exchanges.

In discussing the impact of the Global Financial crisis Minister Garcia noted Canada's strong performance to date and its leadership at the G8 and G20. He indicated that while the global slowdown would impact on Peru's strong growth, he remained confident given Peru's strong banking sector and the increased diversification of their export markets.
